The Winner Is…Other?
Weekly poll article for April 26th 2010. Well this week it seems no one liked the choices laid out, so most of you chose “other”.

While “other” can mean a lot of things, this week it refers to favorite Facebook app games. While I thought I was covering the most valid of the Facebook app games with games such as Farmville, Café World, Mafia & Vampire Wars, Sorority Life, and Castle Age it would seem that I was wrong. The landscape of Facebook gaming is ever changing and what is popular today might be out tomorrow.
I searched for what games were most popular in April this year and found that Farmville is still king, even if many of you did not choose it as your favorite. Farmville has long been the game you hear about, the game you read about on your wall non-stop, and the game that will probably never die due to the hopeless addiction of its players.

Nipping at its heels is Birthday Cards, an app from Facebook that allows you to send a birthday card to other people on Facebook. This app costs money though so it surprises me that it is the second most popular app around, perhaps now we are truly moving into the digital card age? Using ecards for those your not very close to is a bit understandable, but for the most part I feel real cards are just more personal. I must already be a dinosaur to feel that real cards with handwritten well wishes and signatures are better lol.

Third runner up is Café World, a game that I myself enjoy. As fun as it is though, I think it needs a bit of improvement to be a really good game. As it stands, it takes way too long to load and the constant pop-ups in my face drive me bonkers. Not to mention the gift process has become cumbersome as of late with all the millions of kinds of gifts to give and receive. Maybe I’m just not social enough to enjoy that part?

New apps get added to Facebook daily, and while some fall to obscurity the minute they arrive, others have started to gain on the giants of yesterday. I can still remember when Vampire Wars and Mafia Wars were the games I heard about more than any other, and now Vampire Wars isn’t even in the top 25, and Mafia Wars has slid to number 5. Being as how I used to be a Vampire Wars addict, it stuns me to see games like Happy Aquarium overtaking it, but hey I guess that’s just how it goes.

While the winner of the poll is “other” that doesn’t mean I know what your favorite game is, so if I failed to mention it please let me know! Leave a comment and let us all know what games have you hopelessly addicted and why.
